<p>The unit was established as the 354th Fighter Day Wing in November 1956 at Myrtle Beach AFB with the RF-80, replacing the 342nd FDW. The Shooting Stars were replaced by F-100s in 1957, with the unit redesignated the 354th TFW in July 1958. The 354th moved to Kunsan AB, RoK in July 1968 and was composed of squadrons rotated from the USA, including two ANG F-100C units, four with the F-4D and two with the F-4E. The wing's assets passed to the 54th TFW when the 354th TFW returned to Myrtle Beach AFB in June 1970, where it replaced the 4554th TFW and converted to A-7Ds, with a number of T-33As operated for combat crew training duties. The wing split into Advanced and Rear echelons in October 1972, involving many of the unit's aircraft deploying to Korat RTAFB, Thailand. A-7 aircraft drawn from the deployed Myrtle Beach squadrons were formed into the 3rd TFS and assigned to the 388th TFW in March 1973. Dual operations continued until May 1974. The unit re-equipped with the A-10A in 1976. Two squadrons of A-10As deployed to King Fahd Airport, Damman, Saudi Arabia in August 1990 to form the 354th TFW (Provisional) for Desert Storm. The wing was inactivated late in 1992, shortly before Myrtle Beach closed. However, the wing was reactivated at Eielson AFB in August 1993, replacing the 343rd Wing.
